FUJIFILM Receives Modular EHR Certification for Meaningful Use for Radiology

Modular certification for Fujifilm's Synapse® RIS marks a significant step towards complete EHR certification

STAMFORD, Conn., March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. today announced that Synapse® RIS Version 6.1 has received modular electronic health record (EHR) certification for Meaningful Use for radiology.

According to the HITECH act within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, approximately $1.5 billion in incentives is available to radiologists who use certified EHRs and show that they use them in a meaningful way. Vendors such as Fujifilm submit their health IT systems for testing and EHR certification by an authorized testing agency as set up by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).  Products receiving modular EHR certification meet multiple criteria, where as complete EHR certification meet all 33 ONC criteria.

"Having our Synapse RIS receive modular certification is a tangible step towards receiving complete certification," said Jim Morgan, Fujifilm's Vice President of Medical Informatics. "This means that our radiology clients can address their Meaningful Use requirements that ensure an improved workflow and allow them to more quickly qualify for the incentives set forth by the ONC. Additionally, Version 6.1, our latest RIS, enables them to use improved tools to pre-set and manage patient dose and offers a new financial management optimization feature designed to improve facility operations. It's a win-win."

About Synapse® RIS Version 6.1

Fujifilm's Synapse® RIS Version 6.1 includes an enhanced dashboard that gives the user an ability to better manage performance in real time. Version 6.1 also includes Synapse® Financials for RIS, which provides a seamless option of incorporating the billing process into the system and a unique feature that will alert the user to dose management concerns for the patient. As with Fujifilm's complete medical informatics product portfolio, version 6.1 for Synapse Information Systems is designed to also run in a virtualized environment which is proven to lower hardware acquisition/maintenance costs and reduce power consumption.  It is expected to be available for delivery in early 2012.

This EHR Module is 2011/2012 compliant and has been certified by Drummond Group, an ONC-ATCB approved to certify any complete or modular EHR both ambulatory and inpatient, in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
