Flu hospitalizations on the rise

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday reported that hospitalizations for flu have surged in the past few weeks, especially among seniors. Between Oct. 1, 2012, and Jan. 12, 2013, 5,249 confirmed influenza-associated hospitalizations were reported at a rate of 18.8 per 100,000 people. The most commonly reported underlying medical conditions among adults were metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disease, obesity and chronic lung disease. Report
