WASHINGTON, D.C., April 14, 2011 – FierceMarkets announced today that Healthcare Group Publisher Wendy Johnson will lead a panel focused on ACO formation strategies at the World Congress Leadership Summit on Accountable Care Organizations on May 23, 9:15 a.m. – 10:50 a.m, at the Sheraton Premier at Tysons Corner in Vienna, Va. Joining her on the panel will be Robert Canterman of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition; Dana Gelb Safran, Senior VP of Performance Measurement and Improvement at Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Massachusetts; Elizabeth Mitchell, CEO Maine Health Management Coalition; Thomas Babbo, Partner at Hogan Marren, Ltd.; and Tricia Marine Barrett, VP of Product Development at the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

During the panel session, titled "Bracing for the Growth in Bundled Payments: Bringing All of the Stakeholders to the Table to Better Manage Patient Care Across the Continuum,” Johnson will lead panelists in an examination of the factors and considerations necessary for developing an effective ACO strategy. Panelists will share proven strategies on how hospitals and physician groups can work together and will discuss the IT tools necessary to build a successful ACO.

"This is an historic, exciting time for the healthcare industry,” Johnson said, commenting on the upcoming session. “I look forward to the ACO discussion, particularly as we share about the pivotal role of health information technology. Our publications have been covering the historic changes to our nation’s healthcare system for years. And health IT – from electronic medical records and health information exchange to wireless monitoring devices and clinical decision support tools – is certainly the bedrock on which everything will be built. This is sure to be a lively discussion.”
