Farmers & Merchants Bank Presents YWCA North Orange County with Funds for Mammograms for the Underserved

FULLERTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Farmers & Merchants Bank (F&M) donated $3,750 to the YWCA North Orange County as part of the non-profit’s annual meeting on June 25 at the Fullerton Marriott Hotel. The funds were raised by F&M’s Pink Checking program intended to fund mammograms for underserved women in Orange County.

“Because early detection is incredibly important, all women, regardless of creed or income, need to be properly screened,” said Diane Masseth-Jones, executive director of YWCA North Orange County. “We are grateful to Farmers & Merchants Bank for its generosity and activism in providing the women of Orange County with vital breast health services.”

F&M kicked off the Pink Checking program on July 4, 2010 with breast cancer awareness supporters marching in the Huntington Beach Fourth-of-July parade. The program was initiated by F&M to help provide women with critical breast health services they otherwise wouldn’t receive due to income limitations or cultural barriers.

“Due to state budget cuts, fewer women are able to receive critical breast health resources,” said Trinka Rowsell, F&M director of marketing. “F&M is committed to doing all we can in the fight to end breast cancer forever.”

For each new qualified checking account opened, F&M donated $125—the average cost of a mammogram—to the YWCA. F&M and the YWCA aimed to ensure that more women, including low-income and the uninsured, have access to preventative measures such as mammograms, treatment and support services they would otherwise be unable to afford.

The YWCA North County Annual Meeting celebrated a year of accomplishments. The organization also honored volunteers and installed the 2011/2012 board of directors and officers.

Rowsell attended the event to present the $3,750 check from the Pink Checking program to the YWCA in addition to showing F&M’s support of the YWCA’s mission.
