Emdeon Announces Strategic Alliance with LabCorp to Help Healthcare Providers Meet Meaningful Use

Exclusive multi-year deal offers an all-in-one solution for electronic lab orders and results and revenue cycle management

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Emdeon Inc. (NYSE: EM), one of the largest health information networks in the nation focusing on clinical exchange and a leading provider of healthcare revenue and payment cycle management solutions, today announced a strategic alliance with LabCorp (NYSE: LH) to deliver a co-branded Electronic Health Record (EHR) Lite solution to physician practices nationwide.

The Emdeon-LabCorp EHR Lite solution consists of Emdeon Clinician™ as an integrated module within Emdeon Office Suite™, which is an easy-to-use web-based application that simplifies everyday administrative and clinical processes for healthcare providers. Emdeon Clinician, a component of Emdeon Office Suite, has been certified to meet Stage 1 Certification Criteria for Meaningful Use of EHR Technology by the Drummond Group Inc., an ONC-ATCB certifying body. Emdeon Office Suite enables unlimited eligibility and benefits verification, claims and payment management, electronic prescribing, patient billing and payment information and electronic access to LabCorp's clinical laboratory orders and results. This combined suite of clinical, financial and administrative capabilities is accessible via one simple, single sign-on portal.

"The Emdeon Office Suite with integrated LabCorp test ordering and results data gives healthcare providers a low cost, cloud-based solution," said Miriam Paramore, senior vice president of clinical and government services for Emdeon. "This technology streamlines clinical messaging designed to improve patient safety while helping providers qualify for federal HITECH stimulus dollars without unnecessary disruption and expense."

Meaningful Use criterion under the HITECH provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) requires healthcare providers to successfully capture and exchange electronic clinical healthcare information, such as electronic prescriptions and lab orders, to receive incentives and avoid penalties in payments from Medicare and Medicaid. The Emdeon Office Suite integrates with other practice management software, allowing providers to link-in their patient demographic and insurance data. It is also compatible with comprehensive EHR systems and supports bi-directional clinical information exchange.

Together, the Emdeon and LabCorp strategic alliance connects healthcare providers to a broad health information network with connectivity to all LabCorp facilities, as well as more than 125 additional labs, 5,000 hospitals, 60,000 pharmacies and 1,200 payers.

Emdeon will be demonstrating the Emdeon-LabCorp EHR Lite solution at booth number 2201 at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) national conference in Orlando, February 20-24, 2011. More information as well as the schedule for speaking engagements can be found online at http://www.emdeon.com/HIMSS11/.

This complete EHR is 2011/2012 compliant and has been certified by an ONC-ATCB in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.  This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.
