June 15 webinar to feature panel discussion of strategies for financial organizations to mitigate risk of protected health information (PHI) disclosure

FARMINGTON, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC), a non-profit standards development organization and accrediting body, today announced a free Webinar that will discuss the challenges related to healthcare data privacy and security for financial institutions that process protected health information (PHI), and offer real-world solutions for addressing these challenges.

The “Protected Health Information in Financial Services: Privacy and Security Webinar” will take place from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 15. Through a panel discussion, the webinar will examine the current legislative regulations of HIPAA, ARRA and HITECH as it relates to financial institutions; recommendations by EHNAC, NACHA and WEDI for achieving compliance; potential ramifications of unlawful disclosure of PHI; and steps for reducing risk. An open forum will follow the panel discussion to enable attendees to submit questions specific to their own organizations.

Hosted by Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC, the webinar will feature a panel of financial services, healthcare and legal professionals with extensive expertise in HIPAA, ARRA/HITECH and PHI, including:

  • Alberto Casas, VP, CitiBank
  • John Casillas, SVP, HIMSS Medical Banking Project
  • Jan Estep, president & CEO, NACHA – The Electronic Payments Association
  • Sharon Klein Esq., Pepper Hamilton LLP

“The continually evolving legislative regulations surrounding health data processing makes it crucial that financial organizations involved in processing and transmitting PHI not only understand current healthcare privacy and security legislation but also maintain best practices for ensuring compliance and avoiding penalties,” said Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC. “Through educational sessions such as this, we look to continually provide executives, directors and managers from financial institutions and related organizations with the necessary tools and strategies that they can implement to help protect their organization and mitigate the risk of any PHI disclosures.”
