e-Break-in at Carolinas Health compromises info of 5,600 patients

Carolinas HealthCare System is notifying about 5,600 Carolinas Medical Center-Randolph patients that an unauthorized electronic intruder may have compromised their personal health information, the health system said Friday. Discovered on Oct. 8, the data breach involved an intruder obtaining emails from a provider's account from March to October without the provider's or hospital's knowledge. Although it doesn't seem the information has been misused, according to the hospital system, the compromised data included medical and patient information, including patient names, provider and facility names, internal hospital medical record and account numbers, dates of birth, and treatment information. Statement
