Cogent HMG Establishes New Critical Care Program at Saint Francis Hospital

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cogent HMG, a national leader in the field of hospital medicine and critical care medicine, launched its eleventh full-service intensivist program at Saint Francis Hospital, a 395-bed health care facility in Wilmington, Del. Saint Francis is a member of Catholic Health East and Delaware's only Catholic Hospital. This new program will be operated by The Intensivist Group (TIG), recently acquired by Cogent HMG, and the leading provider of critical care services to community hospitals across the country.

This will be the first intensivist program developed for and implemented at Saint Francis. The program will include the development and implementation of literature-based ICU guidelines, a staff intensivist in the hospital seven days a week and intensivist consultation and co-management for all ICU patients.

“Cogent HMG is honored to be selected as the critical care partner for Saint Francis,” said Jay Cowen, MD, The Intensivist Group’s President. “An institution with a rich history in Delaware, Saint Francis is highly regarded for its quality and service excellence. It is our goal that this strategic partnership will help facilitate Saint Francis’s commitment to continued excellence in patient care.”

Saint Francis Hospital has been serving patients in the Wilmington region since 1924. The hospital is recognized as a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery and is the only hospital in Wilmington to offer the daVinci Surgical System for minimally invasive gynecological, prostate and heart surgeries. Saint Francis is also home to Delaware’s first all-digital cath lab. In 2010, Saint Francis received the Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center Certification.

“Our paramount goal is to provide the highest quality care for our patients in all we do,” said Dr. Michael Polnerow, CMO of Saint Francis Hospital. “The presence of intensivists has been shown to improve both quality and efficiency in the ICU and we hope this partnership will be evidence of our continuing commitment to the quality of the care we provide.”

The Intensivist Group joined with Cogent HMG, a national leader in the field of hospital medicine and critical care medicine, in August 2011. The merger made Cogent HMG the largest critical care services provider in the nation with programs across the United States delivering exceptional quality and outcomes and significant cost savings for its hospital partners.
