Cogent Healthcare Acquires Endion Hospitalist Systems

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cogent Healthcare, a pioneer and leader in the field of hospital medicine and critical care medicine, has acquired Endion Hospitalist Systems, the largest provider of hospitalist solutions in Western New York, officials announced today. The transaction was completed effective December 1, 2010.

“We are delighted at the opportunity to partner with Endion Hospitalist Systems,” said Jim Panoff, Chief Development Officer of Cogent. “This combination makes perfect sense, as Cogent and Endion share similar clinical and business philosophies that include meaningful alignment with the goals of our hospital clients.”

“This is the beginning of a number of strategic partnerships or transactions we will be undertaking in the coming months. This and other strategic combinations will leverage Cogent’s sophisticated hospital medicine platform in order to enhance every area of the continuum of care,” Panoff remarked.

Since 2006, Endion has deployed a proven hospital medicine model that is highly-regarded for providing exceptional patient care and delivering measurable quality and financial results. Endion today employs more than 70 providers, who serve nine area hospitals and skilled nursing facilities in western New York.

“Cogent and Endion are built on a foundation of strong physicians, practice management support and leadership. Both organizations have distinguished themselves by delivering quality care to patients and great value to clinicians and hospitals,” said Gene Fleming, Chief Executive Officer of Cogent Healthcare.

“We feel certain healthcare reform will bring greater demands as hospitals will need to improve outcomes and align with their medical staffs. As these changes unfold, we anticipate other companies like Endion may be interested in the benefits of Cogent’s System of Care™, physician leadership and technology resources,” Fleming said.

This addition caps another year of substantial growth for Cogent within its core hospital medicine programs as well as its foray into critical care.

“Joining forces with Cogent will give Endion access to Cogent’s suite of clinical, technology and business intelligence tools that will enhance the services we provide to our hospitals and skilled nursing clients. Our physicians and clinical staff will benefit greatly from technology, leadership and support that Cogent will provide,” said John Brach, MD, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Endion.
