Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene -- Ground breaking Technology Facilitates New Linear Accelerator Installations

The Temporary Radiotherapy Vault (TRV™) provides continuity for treatment of cancer patients while the cancer center upgrades to advanced radiation treatment technology

KEENE, N.H. and AVENTURA, Fla., Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene's Linear Accelerator has the highest utilization rate in the state of NH and provides treatment to many cancer patients close to home. Because of the critical importance of this technology and service in our region, a planned replacement to the new Varian TrueBeam™ linear accelerator will occur over the next few months. During the changeover, we will have a temporary facility and linear accelerator to treat our patients who would otherwise need to travel to Lebanon, Concord, Nashua, or beyond to receive scheduled services.

Advances in radiotherapy technology have centers like Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene looking to upgrade their linear accelerators. Bringing in the latest technology, however, can come with some unintended consequences with ongoing patient therapy. The RAD solution duplicates the Cancer Center's processes in a compact and temporary package allowing patient treatments to continue while the new treatment system is installed.

"The planned replacement of this equipment is important to ensure uninterrupted care for the cancer center patients that rely on us for their radiation treatments," shares Jennifer Michelson, RN, BS, Director of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center Kingsbury Pavilion. "We look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality care for our patients, close to home."

"RAD has had success in deploying radiotherapy vault systems for over six years in the UK, Canada, Mexico and the USA," states company President John J Lefkus III. "New patented technology now allows RAD to deploy comprehensive solutions for as little as 90 days. This second geration TRV provides an effective and speedy solution unmatched by any radiation shielding technology and D-H Keene with their patients will benefit from its use."
