CEP America named Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Ill. as 2014 Practice of the Year at its annual Partnership Meeting in San Diego. Chief Operations Officer, Theo Koury, MD, and Chief Medical Officer, Prentice Tom, MD, announced the award in front of an audience ofover 1,000 providers, nurses, and hospital administrators at the annual awards dinner, where four other locations also received recognition as Distinguished Practices.

“We are thrilled to be recognized with such a distinguished honor,” said Matthew Stilson, MD, CEP America Regional Director – Illinois and emergency medicine physician at Sherman Hospital. “Our emergency department team focuses on process improvements so that Sherman Hospital can provide excellent quality care for our patients.”

Advocate Sherman’s annual emergency department (ED) volume has grown by 20 percent in the past three years to over 63,000 patient visits a year, but the staff has continued to make sustained operational improvements. Over that same period, Advocate Sherman’s median time to provider (TTP) has fallen to 20 minutes while turnaround time to discharge (TAT-D) from the ED dropped to 123 minutes. These operational improvements have also impacted Advocate Sherman’s patient satisfaction scores, which jumped from the 17 to 82 percentile.

In addition to managing Advocate Sherman’s ED, CEP America providers also staff its Immediate Care Centers in Algonquin, Elgin, and South Elgin.

Koury and Tom also recognized four practice locations as Distinguished Practices, including Memorial Hospital in Los Banos, Calif.; Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Calif.; San Leandro Hospital in San Leandro, Calif.; and Regional Medical Center of San Jose.
