About St. Francis

Saint Francis Hospital opened its doors in 1974 and was the first full-service hospital located in the East Memphis area. Though it has never been owned by the Catholic Church, its creation was the result of Catholic inspiration. Therefore, Saint Francis began operation as a not-for-profit hospital, providing care according to Catholic directives for health care facilities. Today, the hospital is part of the Tenet Healthcare System and is a for-profit institution. However, its Catholic roots continue to influence the way it provides services, as evidenced in its Mission Statement. The Saint Francis Campus is home to Saint Francis Hospital with 519 beds, the Saint Francis/University of Tennessee Family Practice Residency Program building, two multi-story Medical Office buildings, and the Saint Francis Outpatient Surgery Center. St. Francis has approximately 1000 affiliated staff physicians, 2000 employees and 200 volunteers.
