Carefx Interoperability Platform, Fusionfx, to be Demonstrated at HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase Following Successful Testing

Participating for the second year, Carefx again passes interoperability testing with multiple EHR vendors

CHICAGO, Feb. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Carefx Corporation, leader of interoperable workflow solutions, announced today its Fusionfx solution will be demonstrated in the HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase following its successful interoperability testing at the IHE North American Connectathon and Connectathon Conference 2011, sponsored by IHE USA and IHE Canada, held Jan. 17-21, 2011, in Chicago.

During Carefx's second year of participation in the IHE Connectathon, Fusionfx successfully passed all registered tests.  Carefx demonstrated interoperability in more than 60 tests, with incorporation of systems from 28 different solutions vendors during the Connectathon, showing interoperability between multiple EHR (electronic health record) systems.  Carefx was able to connect multiple patient registry systems, simulating a consumer facing community HIE system with EHR vendors such as AthenaHealth, NextGen Healthcare and GE Healthcare.

"Carefx is proud that Fusionfx was able to prove its interoperability expertise at the IHE Connectathon for the second consecutive year through the successful connections to disparate EHR related systems from many vendors," said Andrew Hurd, Chairman and CEO of Carefx.  "We've been dedicated to and will continue to focus on advancing our standards-based and context-aware interoperability platform to promote meaningful use."

Focused on promoting and supporting the expansion and best use of standards-based interoperable health IT applications, the IHE North American Connectathon and Connectathon Conference 2011 served as the primary testing event for organizations participating in the HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase.

"The growing number each year of participating organizations in the IHE North American Connectathon confirms its status as the healthcare industry's largest peer-to-peer testing event," said Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, Vice President, Informatics, for HIMSS.  "The value for participants comes from gaining a common understanding of how to successfully implement healthcare data exchange standards, thus enabling the interoperability of their EHR systems and medical devices."

About IHE USA and IHE International

IHE USA (www.iheusa.org) is a not-for-profit organization and a national deployment committee of IHE International, Incorporated ® (IHE®) (www.ihe.net).

IHE International is a global organization that brings healthcare providers and the HIT industry together to improve interoperability and exchange of health information.  With over 370 member organizations representing clinicians, provider organizations, hospitals, medical societies, researchers, standards development organizations, health IT vendors and government agencies, IHE has developed a framework for standards-based interoperability of health IT systems and fostered its adoption worldwide.  IHE USA serves as a voice for U.S. health IT stakeholders and a partner in efforts to promote national adoption of a consistent set of information standards to enable more effective use of health information.

IHE Connectathons are the healthcare IT industry's only large-scale interoperability testing events. Connectathons are held annually in Asia, Europe and North America.  During a Connectathon, health IT systems exchange information with complementary systems from multiple vendors, performing all of the transactions required for the roles they have selected, called IHE Actors, in support of defined clinical use cases, called IHE Profiles.  These Profiles then provide exact definitions of how standards can be implemented to meet specific clinical needs.  Source: IHE Web site at http://www.ihe.net/Connectathon/index.cfm
