Beaver Medical Group Announces Get Lean & Get Some Green Weight Loss Contest

REDLANDS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Win cash and lose fat in the Beaver Medical Group’s Get Lean & Get Some Green contest running March 1 – May 31, 2011. Over $3,600 will be awarded in cash and prizes!

Dr. Ernie Medina, a Preventive Care Specialist in Beaver Medical’s Health Education Department, came up with the idea for the contest. "In February, we begin to see people's New Year's resolutions to lose weight, exercise more, and eat better start to wane. That's why we're kicking off our ‘Get Lean & Get Some Green’ weight loss contest to re-ignite their passion to get back on the wagon and get healthy!"

Judging & Awards

In their second year of holding a weight loss contest, the Health Education Department decided to modify it a bit and have two categories for judging. The first category uses a percentage of original weight lost, based on their initial and ending weight, to determine the winners. This way people who have less weight to lose can fairly compete with those who need to lose a lot of weight. The male and female winners in this category will each receive $500 for first place, $400 for second and $300 for third.

The second category will reward those who lose the most pounds of fat. Participants will weigh in on a special body composition scale that determines how many fat pounds they have (as well as lean body mass and water weight). People who lose weight by exercising and eating healthy will be more likely to win over those who crash diet and lose muscle and water weight. The male and female winners in this category will each receive $300 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third. Contestants can only win in one category.

The cash for the prizes is being donated by Beaver Medical Group; all entry money collected will be put toward raffle prizes and a participant award reception. The contest fee is only $25 for Beaver patients and employees; $35 for others.
