First Health Plans in Puerto Rico to Obtain NCQA Accreditation
FORT LEE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MMM Healthcare, Inc. (MMM), a subsidiary of Aveta Inc., one of the nation’s largest managed care providers, announced today that along with their sister company, PMC Medicare Choice, Inc. (PMC), they earned Commendable Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
MMM and PMC are the first health plans in Puerto Rico to obtain NCQA Accreditation. This designation signifies that MMM meets NCQA’s rigorous standards regarding quality and excellence in clinical care provided by a health plan.
NCQA evaluates health plans based on how well they manage their entire system – including physicians and other providers, hospitals and administrative services – in an effort to improve the quality of care its members receive.

NCQA standards are designed to encourage healthcare organizations to reach the highest possible quality levels, reduce risks for patients and promote an environment of continuous improvement.
Accreditation results are published in five categories: 1) Access and Services, which measures whether health plan members get the care and access they need; 2) Qualified Providers, which measures whether the health plan evaluates its physicians’ qualifications and assesses members’ opinions about providers; 3) Staying Healthy, which measures whether the health plan offers activities that help members maintain good health as well as identify any health conditions; 4) Getting Better, which measures whether the health plan offers programs and activities that help its members recover from illnesses; and 5) Living with Illness, which measures whether the health plan offers care programs that help members with chronic illnesses manage their conditions.
