ATLAS to Demonstrate Infection Control Solution at Annual Scientific Meeting of SHEA

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Atlas Public Health announced plans to participate in the upcoming 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) to be held in Dallas, Texas at the Hilton Anatole from April 1-4, 2011.

ATLAS will demonstrate Guardian™, an infection‐control application uniquely designed to address the combined objectives of recognition and control, facility‐wide analysis, and regulatory reporting of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs). Guardian reduces manual entry and facilitates rapid recognition and actionable analysis of HAIs, as well as statutorily-mandated reporting to public health officials. Guardian is a flexible epidemiological solution comprehensive enough to address the needs of virtually any Infection Control program, enabling Infection Control (IC) units to respond to HAIs rapidly and effectively.

According to a recent industry report, the average cost of a hospital stay for a patient who developed an HAI is $43,000 greater than for a patient without an HAI. “Having effective systems in place to identify, investigate, and respond to HAls is a critical component of any IC program,” states Mark Marostica, Atlas Public Health Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Guardian provides real-time information. By isolating the infection source, hospitals can proactively reduce risks, protect their patients, and decrease non-reimbursements,” continues Marostica. “Moreover, the analytical reports and graphs generated in Guardian provide strong measurement tools to assess the effectiveness of IC protocols and in the long run can prevent future HAIs.”

ATLAS offers proven solutions for collecting complete and timely surveillance information from health care providers and laboratories throughout the community, and equips health department personnel with tools for disease investigation, case management, outbreak control, and trend analysis.

According to SHEA, the Annual Scientific Meeting of SHEA is the junction of current research, evidence, and cutting-edge advances in healthcare epidemiology and infection prevention. A forum for the healthcare professionals involved in prevention of healthcare-associated infections and other adverse events, SHEA 2011 is built around providing depth of understanding, application of evidence, and opportunity for new insight in the science of infection prevention with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.

A demonstration of the Guardian application is available at booth #309 in the exhibit hall of the SHEA conference.
