Arkansas Department of Health Chooses AT&T to Streamline Delivery of Public Health Programs

TotalMobile from AT&T Boosts Efficiency, Cuts Costs

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., April 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today announced that the Arkansas Department of Health has deployed TotalMobile from AT&T to design a mobile flu clinic solution to help the agency more efficiently transmit flu vaccination records across the state. The Department plans to extend the use of the application to other year-round immunization and health inspection programs during the course of 2011.

As an important part of its mission to protect and improve the health and well-being of its citizens, the Arkansas Department of Health operates mobile flu vaccination clinics during the fall and winter in different venues across the state, with the objective of maximizing availability and population reach.

Using the mobile flu clinic solution powered by TotalMobile™, the Arkansas Department of Health is able to more accurately capture key patient information digitally at many mobile flu clinics and submit reimbursement claims to insurance providers, Medicaid and Medicare, in near real-time over the AT&T wireless network. The mobile enterprise application has minimized errors and significantly reduced paperwork. Since implementing the solution, the Arkansas Department of Health has administered more than 250,000 doses of flu vaccine during the current season. Current plans are to extend the use of the solution to its year-round immunization programs and to deploy TotalMobile from AT&T applications for use by health inspectors across the state.

Previously, the clinics recorded patients' personal, medical, and insurance information on paper for submission to data processing. Months later, this information was then returned to the Arkansas Department of Health to file reimbursement claims to insurance providers. A time-consuming and paper-intensive process, this resulted in a high volume of unpaid claims, reporting errors requiring rework and spiraling operational costs.

"The ability to deliver important information without paper has allowed us to report our records with more accuracy," said Jerry Pack, chief information officer for the Arkansas Department of Health. "We plan to keep Arkansas on the leading edge of technology by expanding this project throughout 2011."

AT&T helped the Arkansas Department of Health define and design the process with its government mobility application vendor TotalMobile. AT&T – which recently received the prestigious Product Leadership of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan for its portfolio of mobile enterprise applications – offers a packaged mobile applications platform designed specifically to help state, local and federal agencies and enterprise organizations improve performance and control costs.
