Alter+Care Announces Wellness Plaza at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Alter+Care is developing Wellness Plaza at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, a 100,000 SF, three-story medical office and wellness facility adjacent to the new 80-bed Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel Medical Center in Wesley Chapel, FL. Completion is scheduled for fall 2012.

Wellness Plaza at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel is being developed for the Adventist Health System, a not-for-profit healthcare organization established in 1973 that supports 43 campuses in 12 states and employs 55,000 individuals. Today, Adventist Health System hospitals comprise more than 7,700 licensed beds providing care for four million patients a year in inpatient, outpatient and emergency room visits.

Adventist Health System’s flagship, Florida Hospital, is one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States and a national leader in cardiac care.

According to Donna F. Jarmusz, Alter+Care’s Senior Vice President for Business Development and Strategic Initiatives, “Wellness Plaza at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel reflects the new integrated model for healthcare by combining a comprehensive wellness center, physician offices and hospital-based services in one convenient location on the new medical center campus.” The building will be connected to the hospital via a short covered walkway. The hospital will have the potential for expansion to 288 beds to be constructed in multiple phases to meeting growing healthcare community needs.

According to John Harding, President, Adventist Florida Hospital Tampa Region, “We are committed to our mission of providing preventive, rehabilitative, acute and ambulatory services to this community. Wellness Plaza at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel will complement the new medical center and attract community members to the campus to improve and achieve healthier lifestyles.”

The 50,000 square foot wellness center will include a 25-meter lap pool; warm water therapy pool; men’s, women’s and family locker rooms; an indoor walk/jog track; massage services; group exercise studios; conference rooms; cardio and free weights equipment; heart-healthy café; logo shop; disease management and wellness education programs. The remainder of Wellness Plaza at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel will be leased to physicians and ancillary healthcare service providers.

Wesley Chapel, approximately 25 miles north of downtown Tampa, is an active-lifestyle community, located in Pasco County, the nation’s 38th fastest growing county.

“The Adventist commitment to whole-person care is embodied in the CREATION Health model. This is a blueprint for living a healthy and happy life based on Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal relationships, Outlook and Nutrition,” according to Brian Adams, President and Chief Executive Officer, Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel Medical Center.

The base building architect is Hunton Brady Architects, an Orlando-based design-oriented architecture and interior design firm with a deep commitment to outstanding overall service. The firm has received more than 50 awards for design excellence.

The wellness center at Wellness Plaza at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel was designed by Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative (OLC), a highly respected international architecture firm headquartered in Denver and with offices in Orlando, Tokyo and Cairo.
