AGA Digestive Health Outcomes Registry®, Powered By MedAssurant Data Analytics, Enables Direct Submission of Electronic Medical

Registry's Software Platform, Developed in Collaboration with FIGMD, Integrates Seamlessly with Most Gastroenterological (GI) Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Systems, Including gMed's gGastro

BOWIE, Md., Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MedAssurant, Inc., a leading provider of data-driven healthcare solutions, today announced that the AGA Digestive Health Outcomes Registry (AGA Registry) now enables the direct submission of data through major EMR systems. Sponsored by the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the AGA Registry was built upon MedAssurant's advanced healthcare data management infrastructure and pre-loaded with data from MedAssurant's Medical Outcomes for Research on Economics and Effectiveness (MORE2) Registry™ and is now being continually expanded via submissions from practicing gastroenterologists nationwide.

In collaboration with gMed, the creators of gGastro, a gastroenterology EMR system, and FIGMD, a pioneer in clinical quality measurement and improvement software, the AGA Registry platform now integrates directly and seamlessly with industry-leading EMR systems. gMed users enjoy the ability to have data submitted through a direct integration with the AGA Registry, and FIGMD facilitates integration through custom-designed interfaces with multiple EMR platforms. These services facilitate direct integration with clinical record source systems without interrupting physician workflow. Physicians are able to track their performance, benchmark their achievement against other similar practices and submit data to quality incentive programs.

"We're pleased that MedAssurant's advanced healthcare data infrastructure capabilities are helping physicians to manage the pressures of time and cost, while also focusing on undertaking analytics aimed at improving patient care," said Luis Gutierrez, Senior Vice President, Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Operations, MedAssurant. "The AGA Registry is an exceptional resource for GI providers, and the collaboration of companies like FIGMD and gMed is integral to the success of this initiative. Now participating physicians simply use the systems with which they are familiar to take advantage of the valuable quality reporting and benchmarking tools offered by AGA Registry platform."

The AGA Registry was pre-loaded with data from MedAssurant's MORE2 Registry, a proprietary database containing more than 4.5 billion healthcare events from over 77 million unique, de-identified members throughout the U.S. One of the industry's most sophisticated research datasets, the MORE2 Registry has enabled the AGA Registry to launch with an unprecedented depth and breadth of clinical insight – already including extensive data on more than 4 million colonoscopy screenings and nearly 300,000 IBD cases. The data allow for retrospective and prospective analyses, benchmarking, and they provide a basis for immediate outcomes research. Participating practices can run comparative benchmarking reports after six months of data entry.

Luis Gutierrez and Samuel Walters, Director, Quality and Practice Improvement, of the American Gastroenterological Association will present "Partnering with Medical Specialty Societies to use Registries for Quality Improvement – A Case Study in Gastroenterology" at CBI's 14th Registries and Post-Approval Studies Congress, Sept. 20-22, in Philadelphia.

About the AGA Registry

The AGA Registry is the only gastroenterology registry to be certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), enabling practices to directly submit data for the CMS Physician Quality Reporting System with the potential of earning a Medicare bonus in 2011 and 2012. It is a national outcomes-driven registry that allows clinicians to monitor and improve patient care, while also generating data to compare the efficacy of treatments and potentially increase reimbursement. The registry is open to all U.S.-based gastroenterological healthcare professionals, and participation fees are assessed according to the number of clinicians within a practice who will participate in the registry. Modest additional fees apply for practices interested in integrating with the FIGMD software platform.  For details, please visit www.AGARegistry.org.
