Aetna Releases 2010 Diversity Annual Report, “Embraced. Empowered. Engaged.”

HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aetna (NYSE: AET) today released its 2010 Diversity Annual Report, “Embraced. Empowered. Engaged.” The report demonstrates how diversity enhances Aetna’s business operations, influences its strategy and helps shape its future.

Aetna’s Diversity Annual Report, in its sixth year of publication, complements the company’s 2010 Annual Report. This year Aetna debuts its Diversity Annual Report online (www.aetna.com/diversityannualreport ). The electronic format supplements the company’s print version, engaging readers with both text and video, while also reducing the number of print copies as part of Aetna’s commitment to sustainability.

“While this report chronicles many successes, it also serves as inspiration to strengthen and broaden our efforts to make diversity a singular priority and a spark for progress,” said Raymond J. Arroyo, Aetna’s chief diversity officer. The report features stories collected by the “embraced, empowered and engaged” themes to demonstrate how Aetna’s efforts in diversity impact its business, employees and communities worldwide. The report also substantiates and underscores recognition Aetna received in 2010 from external groups for its work in diversity.

“Sponsoring this year’s Diversity Annual Report has confirmed my belief that Aetna’s focus on affordable, quality health care is wholly intertwined with our commitment to diversity,” said Jeff D. Emerson who serves on Aetna’s Diversity Board and is an executive sponsor for one of Aetna’s 15 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). “The report showcases examples of both the work Aetna is doing to help people live healthier lives and the individuals behind these tremendous efforts.” Emerson is an Aetna senior vice president and head of Health Care Management and the company’s U.S. regions.
