Aceso UpCare Launched at Fletcher Allen to Further Service Patients

Patient-centered health information technology provides condition-specific content from the bedside up

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aceso, provider of patient-centric technology solutions for hospitals, is proud to announce its innovative UpCare system has gone live at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont. Fletcher Allen signed a seven-year contract with Aceso, guaranteeing systems in all inpatient areas, including pediatrics, ICU, the medical surgery and women’s health departments. Aceso’s UpCare technology is an advanced bedside technology system, designed with the patient in mind to improve their hospital experience, and play an active role in aiding recovery. Additionally, by deploying UpCare, hospitals are meeting the Meaningful Use criteria via educational and interactive services that engage patients and their families, while meeting EHR and HIT requirements.

UpCare is an interactive bedside service, viewable to patients on a wall-mounted flat-screen television, tailored to meet the needs of patients during their hospital stay. Discreetly personalized to each individual patient, the interface offers different options that allow the user to interactively learn more about their condition and recovery process via the built-in medical library. In addition to condition-specific content, patients are able to choose between on-demand movie selections, games and television programs thanks to Aceso’s exclusive partnership with Comcast. Additionally, UpCare systems reduce the demands placed on nurses, as patients can use it for simple yet time-consuming tasks such as ordering meals or requesting a glass of water. Use of UpCare comes at no charge to the patient.

Fletcher Allen Health Care brings a level of patient care, research, and services that raises the quality of life in the Vermont region, and it is this dedication to offering the highest standard of care that led them to installing the UpCare system. “We conducted a lot of research to find a bedside entertainment system that would meet the quality levels we demand, using patient satisfaction and education as core factors,” said Chuck Podesta, chief information officer, Fletcher Allen Health Care. “Aceso’s UpCare offering was by far the most superior product available, ticking all our check boxes for desired features. We were especially impressed by how they have anticipated all possible patient needs and found a way to cater to them without compromising the interactivity, design or content.”

“We dedicated a large amount of time researching the UpCare system to make sure it met the needs of all patients, regardless of age or condition, and were waiting for the right hospital environment to launch it into,” said Geoff Fiedler, co-founder and president of Aceso. “Fletcher Allen makes patients its number one priority, and this is perfectly aligned with our vision of patient-centered care. Patient engagement and stimulation are proven to be key factors in aiding recovery, and Aceso’s UpCare is a vital component of the recuperation process.”

UpCare has a number of features that make it stand out from competing systems, notably the space needed to house the Aceso servers, the cost of installation, and the guarantee of service/quality levels. Fletcher Allen is the first hospital to install Aceso’s UpCare system, and it is projected that by the end of 2011, approximately five additional institutions across the United States will have committed to installations.
