ABILITY Network Introduces AWARE – Offering First-of-Its-Kind Patient Safety Information

New Product Delivers Real Time Alerts to Record Fragmentation, Improving Clinical Decision Making

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ABILITY Network Inc™, the nation’s largest and most secure web-based health network, announced today the introduction of ABILITY AWARE, an innovative software product that identifies fragmented patient medical records or partial medical records on a real-time basis. By enabling caregivers to securely access lists of patients who may have fragmented or incomplete records, patient outcomes can be improved and healthcare system costs reduced.

ABILITY AWARE has two components: AWARE Inside which can identify fragmentation within a facility, and AWARE Locator which can identify partial records within a geographic area or healthcare system. Through the implementation of these products, healthcare facilities can identify record fragmentation when the patient is still within the facility being treated, so critical information like medical conditions, previous surgeries, medications and allergy information is available for diagnosis and treatment, mitigating the risk for potential adverse events.

“Conservatively, the national average is that five to seven percent of all medical records being created are fragmented, meaning another record already exists for that patient. That means that one in twenty patients is potentially being treated with partial information,” said Mark Briggs, CEO of ABILITY Network. “Our goal at ABILITY is to help ensure that hospitals have the tools they need to improve the care they are providing while at the same time minimizing their costs.”

In addition to the obvious patient care implications, missing patient record information can also lead to additional resource burdens on the healthcare delivery system such as reordering and processing of repeat diagnostic tests resulting in further delays and costs of treatment. With ABILITY AWARE, patient information is delivered in a secure, online, easy-to-read report providing a range of benefits including:

  • Improved patient outcomes
  • Reduced costs
  • Minimized risk of medical errors
  • Secure, online daily delivery
  • Easy-to-read graphical presentation
  • Ability to interface with multiple practice management systems

Further addressing the topic of patient safety and shared information across the healthcare enterprise, Mark Briggs will speak on the “Direct Project Transforming Patient Care” at the upcoming American Health Information Management Association National, AHIMA meeting. Briggs will present various use cases including patient safety and examples of where AWARE is in place during his discussion on October 3 at 4:45 in Ballroom I-J at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, UT.

ABILITY will be also be exhibiting and demonstrating ABILITY AWARE in booth number 211 at the conference, Oct. 1-6.
