14 Additional Hospitals Select CareFusion Pyxis ES Platform To Improve Medication Management Efficiency, Safety

SAN DIEGO, June 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CareFusion Corp. (NYSE: CFN), a leading, global medical technology company, today announced that 14 additional hospitals across the country have adopted the Pyxis® ES platform to help simplify and standardize their medication management process.

The Pyxis ES platform is a combination of hardware and software that gives hospitals of any size centralized control of their medication dispensing technologies. Centralized management of medication dispensing systems helps standardize and maintain medication management practices and policies within a single site or across multiple hospitals and clinics. Enabling common practices built on a common formulary helps improve medication safety.

"More than 50 customers have chosen the web-based Pyxis ES platform as their solution to address medication management across their hospital or health system," said Rusty Frantz, senior vice president and general manager of Dispensing for CareFusion. "The ability to have centralized management and reporting across a facility or entire health system helps customers establish consistent and efficient medication management processes."

Products available on the Pyxis ES platform include the Pyxis® Enterprise Server, Pyxis MedStation®    ES system and the Pyxis® Anesthesia ES system. The platform also integrates with other Pyxis technologies including Pharmogistics® and Pyxis CIISafe® for narcotics management. With the Pyxis Enterprise Server—the core of the platform—pharmacy managers can centrally manage one dispensing system across the entire hospital or health system. User management can be integrated with Active Directory, enabling system access with standard hospital credentials.

The Pyxis MedStation ES system is CareFusion's automated medication dispensing system built on the Pyxis ES platform, and introduces a new standard in dispensing cabinet system reliability, supportability and ease of use. The software platform enables simple, efficient workflows centered on the patient while improving medication management processes for pharmacy, nursing and other staff. The user interface significantly reduces the number of steps in key workflows, such as decreasing the steps to dispense a medication by half.

Also available, the Pyxis Anesthesia ES system extends the value of a hospital's investment in the Pyxis ES platform to the operating rooms (ORs) and procedural areas. The Pyxis Anesthesia ES system offers the same innovative centralized system management and integration capabilities as the Pyxis MedStation ES system, including enhanced formulary and user management for pharmacy and improved system management for information technology (IT) departments.

Hospitals implementing the Pyxis ES platform include:

  • Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kan.
