QuantHealth raises $45M series B to accelerate AI-driven clinical trial simulations

QuantHealth, which uses artificial intelligence to develop clinical trial designs, secured $45 million in series B funding to accelerate adoption of its simulation-first clinical trial development platform.

Qumra Capital led the funding round, with participation from Pitango HealthTech, Sanofi Ventures, Artofin Venture Capital Fund L.P., Bertelsmann Healthcare Investments (BHI), GC Ventures, NewHealth Ventures, Shoni Top Ventures and Esplanade Ventures.

QuantHealth CEO and co-founder Orr Inbar told Fierce Healthcare in an emailed statement that unlike most other AI companies in the space, QuantHealth works "before a clinical trial begins," ultimately impacting them "more deeply."

“Our models simulate patient-level biology to predict responses, and identify what will actually drive a trial's success before it begins,” Inbar said. “This allows our clients to have a strong understanding of the likely outcomes so they can shape the strategy from day one rather than adjusting course midstream.”

Inbar said clinical trials remain “one of the last major areas in healthcare” to be untouched by AI solutions “despite being the area where 90% of drug candidates fail.”

“In addition, most of these failures stem from effectiveness or safety issues that could have been caught earlier,” Inbar said. “AI is starting to change that by making it possible to model how a trial will actually perform before it starts, rather than discovering problems only after a trial is already underway. That shift has the potential to save the industry billions and get effective treatments to patients faster.”

Founded in 2020, QuantHealth has simulated more than 600 clinical trials across 30 indications—with up to 90% predictive accuracy—to date, executives say. The company also plans to expand to more than 40 indications across its core focus areas, including oncology and cardiometabolic.

Inbar said the company plans to use this funding round to advance its research and development capabilities, grow its team and expand its product portfolio.

“Right now, QuantHealth's focus is on trial design, but the company plans to extend its support further into the drug development process, including how a treatment is eventually positioned and brought to market,” Inbar said. “Throughout all of this, the goal is to keep proving out real, measurable results for partners.”

The Tel Aviv-based startup announced a $15 million series A funding round in August 2023, rolling out its AI-guided workflow—dubbed Katina—that November. It received a strategic investment from Accenture in January 2024, though financial terms of the investment were not disclosed, Fierce Biotech reports.

QuantHealth has raised approximately $70 million to date, according to Inbar.

“As one of QuantHealth’s earliest investors, we have had the opportunity to watch the company help define an emerging category at the intersection of AI and clinical development,” said Cris De Luca, Sanofi Ventures partner, in a statement. “As the pharmaceutical industry increasingly looks to leverage AI to improve decision-making across the development lifecycle, simulation technologies are becoming an important part of the drug development toolkit. QuantHealth has been an early pioneer in this space, and we look forward to the company’s continued growth and impact across the industry.”
