Premier's ACOs outperform most others

The accountable care organization operated by group purchasing organization Premier, Inc. is apparently unlike any other. Premier's PACT population health management collaborative has outperformed Medicare Shared Savings and Pioneer ACOs operating outside of the collaborative. Forty-seven percent of the MSSP and Pioneer ACOs in PACT reaped about $50 million in savings combined, compared to a 26 percent savings rate by the other ACOs. And while the PACT ACOs represent about 5 percent of all the ACOs nationwide, they represent 12 percent of the total savings. Premier officials credit the success with swiftly identifying at-risk populations and coordinating their care through medical homes, as well as developing concrete approaches for non-acute care management.
