Former Independence CEO Dan Hilferty launches strategic advisory firm

Dan Hilferty, the former CEO of Independence Health Group, has founded a new strategic advisory firm called Dune View Strategies.

The company will focus on advising and investing in small and midsize healthcare organizations and startups as they bring new products and innovations to market, according to an announcement. Dune View's team brings significant operational experience, strong connections and a proven track record in the industry, with Hilferty leading the way, the firm said.

Hilferty plans to build out a team of advisers over the next several months.

"With the constantly evolving marketplace, the opportunities and challenges that innovative healthcare companies have to navigate have never been more competitive," said Hilferty in a statement. "Dune View will steer the next generation of healthcare leaders through the complex wireframe of provider, payer and political relationships in today's industry, and help them to accelerate growth and reach their full potential."

Hilferty served as the CEO of Independence for a decade and spent 25 years with the insurer in a number of leadership roles at Independence as well as at AmeriHealth Caritas, its Medicaid managed care subsidiary. Independence is one of the largest Blues insurers in the country.

To kick-start its work, Dune View will host the HealthKey Summit this fall, which will focus on driving change in behavioral health, digital health and cell and gene therapy. The by-invitation event is backed by sponsors including Comcast, Penn Medicine and AmeriSource Bergen.

"At a time when the behavioral health crisis is reaching a breaking point and interest in areas of healthcare innovation like digital health and gene therapy has never been more active, the goal of the HealthKey Summit is to explore what's needed, what's next and what's possible in healthcare," said Hilferty.
