There now are three authorized EMR testing and certification bodies, as InfoGard Laboratories, San Luis Obispo, Calif., has joined the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology and the Drummond Group by gaining approval from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Additional applications are pending for the "temporary" EMR certification program, which is supposed to run through December 2011 while ONC develops a long-term plan to have separate testing and certification entities to ensure EMR products will help providers achieve "meaningful use."
