After 20 years on the run, fraud fugitive arrested in Miami

After 20 years on the run, a fraud fugitive who was living in Nicaragua under a different name is in the custody of U.S. officials.

Robert Allen Lopez was arrested in Miami last week, more than 20 years after he pleaded guilty to a $4 million Medicare fraud scheme. Before his sentencing hearing, Lopez fled the country with his two children. Four years later, his 10-year-old son was found wandering the streets of Cancun, Mexico and taken into protective custody. Office of the Inspector General agents discovered that Lopez was living in Nicaragua under a different name and worked with several government agencies and the Nicaraguan government to extradite him.
