Teladoc Health announced Wednesday the launch of two new artificial intelligence capabilities within its enterprise smart care platform Solo.
The two new capabilities—dubbed SoloVitals and SoloScribe—aim to help health systems surface timely patient insights into their care environments while reducing technology fragmentation, executives say.
SoloVitals is an AI-driven contactless vital sign measurement tool that captures heart and respiration rates. Using a patient’s existing camera-equipped device, such as a smart phone or tablet, SoloVitals analyzes subtle facial skin color changes through remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) technology to generate measurements. This capture provides clinicians with clinically validated vital sign measurements during remote consultations to support better care decisions, according to executives.
SoloScribe is an ambient AI documentation scribe that creates structured clinical notes in the Solo platform. The offering supports both direct-to-patient and telemedicine deviced-based visits. SoloScribe creates templated summaries that are directly transferred into electronic health records (EHRs).
Danny Sanchez, Teladoc Health vice president of technology and innovation, told Fierce Healthcare the tools are “integrated into the technology already deployed in hospital rooms.”
“There are other ambient scribe and contactless vital tools on the market, but most ask hospitals to buy, install and manage one more piece of technology,” Sanchez said. “Our clients keep telling us they want the opposite: new capabilities built into the products and workflows they already know and use.”
"Health systems are under pressure to expand access, support their care teams, and adopt AI responsibly, all without adding operational complexity," said Joby McKenzie, Teladoc Health general manager for North American health systems. "They need innovation that solves real clinical challenges, but they need it to integrate with the technology they already use and scale across the enterprise."
The new solutions were “built with that need in mind,” McKenzie told Fierce Healthcare.
“Together, they give health systems a scalable way to improve care delivery while providing care teams with timely patient insights and documentation support directly within the workflows they already use,” McKenzie said. “This reduces friction, supports more informed clinical decisions, and avoids another disconnected point solution.”
Teladoc Health’s Solo platform is installed in more than 15,000 care locations globally, McKenzie said.
“A scalable approach to AI should make care simpler, not add another layer of complexity,” McKenzie said. “When AI is embedded into the workflows clinicians already use, it can reduce administrative burden, surface timely patient insights, and help health systems expand capacity more effectively.”
SoloScribe is generally available to customers, while a general release of SoloVitals is expected in December.
