Hippocratic AI rolls out platform to coordinate teams of conversational voice AI agents

Artificial intelligence company Hippocratic AI unveiled Thursday a platform that that coordinates teams of conversational voice AI agents—dubbed agentic orchestrators—in what the company describes an an “evolution in agentic technology for healthcare.”

With the agentic orchestrators, a supervising intelligence layer determines which agent engages each patient, when, and how, in what the company says is an “adaptive, n-of-1 experience” curated by patient needs and responses. There are more than 30 agent orchestrators divided across providers, payers and life sciences.

Agents can take on tasks that result in system-level outcomes, executives say, including reducing readmissions and improving Star Ratings.

All agents are supported by the startup’s Polaris safety architecture, which it says has assisted with more than 250 million patient interactions and has been validated by more than 7,700 licensed clinicians across the U.S.

Hippocratic AI CEO and co-founder Munjal Shah told Fierce Healthcare in an emailed statement the agentic orchestrator launch is the “next evolution of healthcare.”

"Two hundred fifty million patient interactions taught us something fundamental: point solutions will only get you so far,” Shah said. “This is the shift: from completing individual tasks to coordinating care and engagement across every patient, member, provider, and stakeholder—and ultimately moving outcomes across entire populations. That is how we create healthcare abundance.”

For health plans, the AI teams support functions such as member onboarding, chronic care management, pharmacy services, readmission prevention and Star Ratings improvement. Provider-focused offerings target patient onboarding, care gap closure, pharmacy management, inpatient and ambulatory workflows, and reducing patient leakage and readmissions.

Hippocratic AI was founded in 2023 with the goal of building the first LLM for healthcare and, in June 2024, launched its first generative AI healthcare agent. As of November, the startup has a $3.5 billion valuation after securing a $126 million series C funding round.

Most recently, Hippocratic AI and WellSpan Health inked an expanded multi-year partnership to expand capacities across the health system's network.

Through the updated partnership, Hippocratic AI’s generative AI agent—Ana—will expand from handling inbound calls and primary care appointment scheduling to post-discharge follow-up and chronic disease check-ins.

The two organizations also launched a formal co-development program to build clinical AI agents at WellSpan’s York, Pa.-based campus.
