Artificial intelligence healthcare startup Heidi unveiled an upgraded version of its AI clinical assistant that moves beyond documenting patient visits to helping complete administrative tasks.
Heidi says it currently supports 2.8 million patient visits every week globally, surfacing around 10 million follow-up tasks. Until now, those tasks were handed back to the clinician. With Heidi II, the company introduces several new capabilities to the platform: agents, memory and peer-reviewed research.
Heidi CEO and co-founder Thomas Kelly said in a statement the launch is “the culmination” of the company’s work.
“We started inside the visit by capturing the note and gathering the care context,” Kelly said. “Now Heidi can create the tasks and complete them from referrals and chart prep to arranging follow ups. It handles that work as a partner, while clinical judgement and approvals remain with the clinician.”
The platform’s new home screen opens on clinicians’ days, providing patients, sessions and tasks with relevant context readily available.
Clinicians can ask the platform to complete tasks in plain language, with early use cases including pre-charting patients for a full day, evidence-based analyses on visits or referrals and running panel sweeps.
The platform’s agents can be saved and scheduled as routines, either for individual clinicians or entire practices. Approval controls for agentic runs are established by clinicians or organizations, the company says.
Peer-reviewed research is also available in the platform. Content partners include the New England Journal of Medicine, Wiley and Cochrane.
“Heidi does the preparation I used to squeeze in between patients,” said Raymond Brown, M.D., Capital ENT & Sinus Center ENT specialist, in a statement. “It loads my schedule, finds the pathology results in the chart, and writes a pre-visit note I can read in thirty seconds.”
Executives say Heidi now supports millions of patient interactions each week in 110 languages from 190 countries. Moreover, Heidi’s AI scribe has supported more than 175 million visits and 67 million clinical hours globally—and Heidi Evidence has answered more than 10 million queries since its March launch.
And, Heidi has surfaced more than 400 million follow-on tasks since February 2024.
Heidi II began rolling out on Sept. 29 in English and French, with additional languages to follow. It will not be available in the United Kingdom or European Union, the company notes.
The announcement is fresh off the startup securing $340 million to build out its workflow automation and agentic capabilities for clinicians.
The fresh capital was a combination of a $100 million series C round—led by Blackbird—and $240 million in growth investment led by General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund.
