SPOTLIGHT: Kmart expands generic formulary

Simvastatin, the generic version of cholesterol-buster Zocor, is among 22 prescription medications now available for $15 per 90-day supply at Kmart pharmacies nationwide. The discount retailer on Monday expanded the formulary for its nationwide 90-Day Generic Drug Program to include a total of 225 meds across multiple therapeutic classes. Between this Kmart program and Wal-Mart's highly popular 30-day prescriptions for $4, discount retailer are accomplishing in a matter of months something health plans have failed at for years, namely containing runaway drug spending.
