Apparently Conrad Hilton got it right when he tied value to location. Six major Silicon Valley players will donate $150 million to Stanford Hospital & Clinics over the next decade, the hospital announced. The money will go toward developing a new $2 billion, 600-bed facility at Stanford Medical Center, and also will fund development for a global model of patient-centered, technologically advanced healthcare.
"Stanford has the ability to change the face of healthcare," Stanford Hospital President and CEO Amir Dan Rubin, said in a statement.
The six philanthropic companies involved--Apple, eBay, HP, Intel, Intuit and Oracle--are members of the hospital's new corporate partners program. The companies will do more than just donate money, though; they also plan to work with SHC to develop new approaches to patient access, information, education and navigation.
The announcement comes a day after Palo Alto officials were scheduled to discuss a $173 million offer Stanford made to the city to ensure its hospital expansion plan goes through.
