Washington hospital beats antitrust rap

Bellevue, WA based PeaceHealth has won a victory in an antitrust suit filed by competitors claiming anticompetitive behavior. PeaceHealth had faced a $16.2 million judgment in an antitrust lawsuit brought by neighboring McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center of Springfield, OR. McKenzie-Willamette had accused PeaceHealth of attempting to establish a monopoly by discounting tertiary care at one of its hospitals in exchange for exclusive contracts from insurers. Initially, a trial court agreed with the plaintiffs, but now, an appeals court has thrown out the decision.
