Trend: Competition heating up in medical spa market

Hoping to build their bottom line, a growing number of medical practices have begun to offer "medical spa" services ranging from Botox to weight reduction procedures. Now, it's beginning to look like the market for nonsurgical services is starting to tighten up as the flood of new players hits. Not only is competition a factor, spending on cosmetic procedures is down nationwide, according to former president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Dr. Mark Jewell. Meanwhile, medical spa marketers haven't done much to build physician-patient relationships, which doesn't work well over the long run, some observers suggest. Meanwhile, despite these issues, medical spas connected to plastic surgeons still seem to be doing well.
