Devicemaker Stryker Corp. has been targeted by two investigations, one looking at its relationship with doctors, and the other related to compliance issues regarding one of its products.

For one thing, Stryker has gotten a subpoena from the office of New Jersey attorney general Anne Milgram, who wants to know more about its financial interest in and compensation of doctors participating in some clinical trials of its products. Stryker also faces an inquiry from the FDA related to compliance on its craniomaxillofacial implant product.

Clearly, the New Jersey AG is on the warpath where devicemakers are concerned. The agreement comes only two days after she reached a voluntary compliance agreement with spinal devicemaker Synthes over the way it paid doctors participating in clinical trials.

Milgram has let it be known that her office also plans to send subpoenas to five other devicemakers, requesting similar data on relationships with doctors. Meanwhile, a handful of other devicemakers in addition to Stryker have received subpoenas as well.
