SPOTLIGHT: Obama wants health reform passed before summer recess
Comments
I believe that instituting HR 676 is a very good beginning to expand Medicare as a public option. Though I also know that Medicare needs to be more "bendable" in its coverage so that they allow people to be treated with more than the standard Western "medicine". For example, if a cancer patient can feel better when they have accupuncture, or deep massage, or meditation, this should be covered. If a dialysis patient wants to be dialyzed at home ALL of the services should be covered not just the machine, filters, venipuncture, etc,...the list goes on.
Medicare claims that overly repeated testing will disallow coverage. Should a person need testing, as in the case of hashimoto's. Many times, only the TSH is tested when several other testing is neccessary to give the doctor a complete analysis of what is happening to the patient and how much more thyroid replacement is neccessary. These are only a few conundrums that I think cause problems for the health of patients and keep Medicare so bogged with paperwork.
The notion of socialization or nationalization is so frightening to people that they do not realize that when someone is ill, it certainly does affect everyone. That is just the fact when you are a human being living in any society. It should be a natural idea that one can walk into any place that has "Clinic" or "Hospital" and be treated - not turned away or asked to pay upfront before someone sees you! I have been told, "if you cannot pay"... or do not have a credit card to pay upfront - "you can not be seen". Really, I ask you, is that OK with you?
I SUPPORT HR 676 and am livid at the figures that insurance company CEO's make and retire on while so many of us have to suffer!
