In medical industry lore, there's a legend floating around insisting that rates of hospital mistakes jump in July, when medical school grads begin work. The truth is, though, that this "July Phenomenon" is a myth, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. The study found no monthly variations in key measures of patient safety, such as mortality or ventilator-support days. Article
