SPOTLIGHT: Japanese patient rejected by 14 hospitals
As bad as things are within the U.S. healthcare system, a recent case in Japan illustrates that we're far from the only ones struggling to meet demand. In a recent case in Japan, an elderly man with head injuries was turned away by 14 area hospitals, with hospitals telling paramedics that they lacked the specialists, equipment and staff to help the 69-year-old patient. (The man later died at the facility that eventually accepted him.) This is one of a string of recent incidents in which Japanese patients were denied treatment due to resource shortages. Article
