You can officially add Japan to the list of Asian countries fighting for their share of the medical tourism pie. Japanese officials are planning to begin marketing its hospitals, which might not be much cheaper than the U.S., but enjoy an excellent reputation for quality, cleanliness and good service. Government officials hope to use the money to close budget gaps for the struggling facilities; right now, they pay 80 percent of the bills themselves.
