New research from the Agency for Health Research and Quality has concluded that three in 10 elderly patients visiting the ED after a fall were admitted in 2006, a big piece of the $20 billion cost for treating falls for patients over age 65. That number is almost certainly increasing, with falls now standing as the most common non-fatal injury type in the senior population, the AHRQ estimates. Article
