San Diego hosts ADA's Scientific Sessions

San Diego hosts the 65th annual American Diabetes Association (ADA) Scientific Sessions this weekend. That means we can probably expect a lot of talk about diabetes and chronic diseases in general over the next week. Eli Lilly is expected to talk up its partnership with Amylin Pharmaceuticals, which produced the recently approved Byetta, a new twice-a-day treatment for controlling blood sugar levels which appears to show great promise.

We'll also be hearing a lot about the things technology can do to help manage the disease. Last Thursday the ADA launched Diabetes Personal Health Decisions, a website that allows people to create a personal health record, which can let them better understand their risk of developing complications from the disease. The system runs on software developed by Kaiser Permanente.

At least one prominent blogger will be on hand in San Diego. Diabetes Mine's Amy Tendereich, the subject of a recent profile in The Wall Street Journal, will be covering the event. We'll have detailed coverage as well, of course, in Monday's edition of FierceHealthcare.
