As FierceHealthcare readers know, last year the state of New York embarked on what may be the most aggressive healthcare industry restructuring currently under way in the United States. Now 62 healthcare facilities affected by the new mandates are asking for funding to make the changes the state is demanding. The hospitals and nursing homes are asking the state's Department of Health for a total of $2.5 billion, nearly five times the amount reserved by the state's plan. It's not clear yet what the facilities will do if their requests aren't granted, but it seems pretty likely they're going to be in crisis mode.
