Sure, there's an AMA affiliate doing business in the state--plus about 30 other medical trade groups. But that hasn't stopped a group of New Jersey doctors from creating a new physicians' advocacy group, NJ Physicians, focused on hot issues like medical malpractice premiums and health plan relations. The group's leaders say that they're planning to partner with AMA affiliate Medical Society of New Jersey, rather than compete.

NJ Physicians says it will help doctors get back their spot "at the forefront of medicine."  Among its first moves, group officials said, will be to start a new registry where physicians can report cases of health plans' compromising care through administrative interference. Another initiative will be to offer physician members free CME courses, free legal representation and access to EMRs, financial planning and office management services.
