NIH announces availability of $1.5B in stimulus funds

NIH has announced that it will begin accepting applications for grant funding for scientific research, construction and improvement of research facilities and purchase of scientific equipment. The funds will come from $1.5 billion allocated to the agency by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, otherwise known as the stimulus bill.

Of the $1.5 billion, at least $200 million in challenge grants will support research on topics in biomedical and behavioral science which will benefit from two-year jump start funds. NIH will spend $1 billion on construction grants to build new research facilities, or improve existing ones. It will also offer $300 million in shared instrumentation grants to buy research equipment.
