A new report from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) indicates an increase in the number of physicians and nonphysicians who participate in continuing medical education (CME). Researchers reviewed state and national data from 2005 through 2012. According to their findings, more than 24 million physicians and other healthcare professionals were educated via the 130,000 educational activities offered by 2,000 accredited CME providers in 2012. The number of physician and nonphysician participants in overall CME activities has increased steadily over the years; however, the data does show a decline in the number of physician participants in CME presented by state accredited providers.
