This is being reported as "new" research, but they have been finding these same results for 30 years while everybody was ignoring it. Except for Peter Orszag, who used this research in his reports when he was the head of OMB, in spite of the power of the pharma, devices, and hospital lobbies. We have been deaf to it at our own peril. This is where a comparative effectiveness research agency, like the one in the UK, will help us design better and more rational national health policies.
