MDs might not mention treatments they oppose
Comments
Gee, thanks, doc. You sure you should be making our bodies the battleground for your beliefs?
DAmn doctors cant do thier jobs what a waste of college and school over some stupid religious belief
What do you expect? The first rule for Doctors is "Do no harm." They have sworn to this so in their own minds they must first "do no harm" to anyone. For a definition of 'harm' one *must* use a moral or ethical basis (which guarantee that *someone* will disagree). Do you expect Doctors to start saying, "Who cares about preserving life or preventing pain, I just want the quickest solution." You *must* discuss such things with your Dr. *before* an emergency arises and if you disagree, go to another Dr. Just getting a degree does not make *anyone* perfect. Look at what it does for Politicians.
Ok, let's be rational. Let's take an example. Testosterone and growth hormone treatment for men. Good or bad? Nobody knows at this point but if I were a doctor with a long time patient and friend I would not recommended this treatment as an option for impotence. How about stomach stapling surgery or breat implants for 12 year old girl? Is that right or wrong? Ah, not so easy now.
Belief has an important role in every decision. If you are a human being, then you have a set of mores and ideas that you adhere to. And these will always play into your decisions. I believe doctors make decisions based on what they know and what they believe.
*The* use of *asterisks* so frequently is *annoying*
Loser.
Of course the doctors aren't going to present all the options, that would be stupid.
Imagine if you went to the doctor about a sore on your arm and he talked about amputation and assisted suicide. Those are technically options.
Conventional Wisdom and Anonymous #7: You're both missing the point. The point is that these doctors are refusing to give patients the option on the grounds of their own beliefs as to the morality of the treatment. Experimental treatments , like the hormone treatment, are a different story. As are treatments that do more harm than good to the patient (amputation for a sore) and cosmetic procedures (breast implants), which are not valid treatments. All these supposed counter-examples are, in fact, designed to mislead by not addressing the actual topic. What this article is discussing is the fact that 15% of doctors apparently feel qualified to make moral decisions for their patients rather than present the options. Frankly, whatever your beliefs, if you think this is reasonable you have ceased to be a man and are an insect.
The fact that it's only 15% is not bad considering the fact that most people act on their carnal and banal impulses, and still others believe that they share the moral high-ground with god. I find it appropriate that they train 85% to overcome this. Now if we could only train the lawyers, and lawyer politicians to stop steeling land and moneys from the poor.
It is evident that some people here are either MDs or are related to them. I am so sick and tired of MDs acting as if they know what's best for their Patients. I am in the field myself and am fed up at the arrogance of this group of people. I feel that they use their patients as lab rats and keep prescribing toxic meds even when there are other safer alternatives available. I have lost my respect for the medical field and Do not think that most MDs have the knowledge of what's best for their patients. The only time I would consult an MD is if I am bleeding to death and it's a life-death situation.
Number 10 let get this straight. you think the medical field is arrogant and prescribes toxins. patients are just laboratory animals. However, when you need assistance then the same people you despise are now helpful. Please, you are no different.

Anonymous 11 & 12,
You didn't get my point, I will definitley not go to an MD and just be prescibed meds that they don't even know the side effects to but if I am in an accident and am bleeding to death, I am smart enough to go to an ER and get stitched up. I am also open minded enough to know there is room for MDs in this world just like other health care providers. But MDs are not gods and certainly do not have all the answers and I am not going to depend on them for every health issue I have. Thank you very much!
When I first started reading this, I was hoping it was going to be about alternative medicine. THAT'S what is not being offered by Drs. That's what they should be recommending.
As for this article, Drs. have taken the Hippocratic oath to save lives. I have always wondered how they could perform abortions if they have taken this oath. How can someone be upset at a Dr. for abiding by the oath he took when he became a Dr.?
excuse me do no harm is not on the Hipporactic Oath that is why it is called this they are hipporcates say one thing and do another i would die first before going to another Dr, after being injured by one and he disabled me and many others from a product not fda approved for the spine never get an epidural steriod injection if u want to stay healthy u wil be sorry believe me been there and done that, i stay away from them all when they perscribe prioslex for a 5 week old baby, or celebrex for a child over 2 for arthritis the morons are not smart enough to know these are called growing pains, they need to stop the drugs coming in from other countrys also, because they are contimated, they are not checked and are old drugs, so to make a buck they will give a patient anything to shut them up you all need to do more research on the drugs u take and find out where they are coming from and they need to stop compounding drugs that are killing patients Fda does not care drug co do not care and neither do drs GET IT I HOPE FOR YOUR SAFETY AND HEALTH DO MORE RESEARCH, LOOK UP THE OATH I FOUND 4 DIFFERENT VERSIONS AND NOT WANT OF THEM HAS DO NO HARM THESE DRS WERE NEVER SCHOOLED IN PAIN AT THE computer classes half do not go to school get liscense on the web some have no insurance, some our imposters now do your homework and be safe
