Last year Americans learned that the Department of Veterans Affairs kept sick veterans waiting for appointments for months and some patients even died in the process. A year and billions of dollars in reforms later, the number of patients facing long waits has not dropped, according to an Associated Press investigation. The AP found that the number of veterans waiting more than 30 or 60 days for non-emergency care has remained largely unchanged since the summer, while the number of appointments that take longer than 90 days to complete has almost doubled. Many of the facilities with the highest rates of patients waiting longer than 30 days are located in Southern states within driving distance of each other. Article
