Insurance group pushes for P4P in reform

The primary lobbying group for the health insurance industry is hitting The Hill with plans for health reform, and one of the key features it's pushing is payment models that reward quality and patient safety--otherwise known as pay-for-performance.

America's Health Insurance Plans is a big fan of the P4P programs put in place by private health plans nationally, which it describes in a new report. The report suggests that these private P4P plans are improving adherence to evidence-based care and cutting emergency department visits.

Now, AHIP would like to see Medicare--and of course any health plan emerging from planned Obama reforms--include P4P measures as well.
